If you're like me (i.e. a little twisted), you enjoy seeing animals
being mistreated in old films.
Yes, I know.... it's a bit like admitting you slow down to look at
accidents....

Anyway, I'm very excited, 'cos I've just watched a glorious print of
one of the Hal Roach Dippy Doo Dad films (one I'd never seen) and it's
on DVD!
It's tucked away on Disc 4 of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol.2
set. Basically, Friz Freleng and Chuck Jones wrote a script to go with
the action and Mel Blanc did the voices. Circa 1952.
It's great!

Now, does anyone know (or feel brave enough to admit) the title of the
original Dippy Doo Dad film they used?

I don's seem to find this. Where do you find it.

I find Orange Blossoms for Violet which is all animals - but can
you point out what it was you are refereing to.

Yes Bill, that's the one!
It's a Dippy Doo Dads with some added footage of clouds etc top and
tail. You can tell by the way the scratches disappear!
I'm surprised no one's been able to supply the original title here yet.
I was sure there were some "closet" Dippy Doo Dad fans lurking in the
silent undergrowth......

I'll bite. (Ar! Ar!) What is a Dippy Doo Dad? I'm usually a sucker for
animal films, unless it involves electrocuting them or dragging them around
on wires.

Yes...that sort of thing should be reserved for the likes of John Malkovich and
Crispin Glover....r

ok..... to put you out of your misery....

The Dippy Doo Dads were a series of (about 20?) films made by Hal Roach
in the 20s.
They starred a variety of animals (the leads were usually monkeys)
dressed in clothes.

Think of Our Gang and the way animals were mis-treated in those films
(e.g. Barnum and Ringling)....
then double it ..... and double it again!............

Gloriously awful !!

Hi, Dave. 10 years too late, but it's Lovey Dovey, most likeky. I LOVE the Doo Dads! I have 2 of the 1-sheets (for Be Honest and Go West)! And Go West is in the blu-rayvedition of Keaton's Go West feature. Beautifully restored, too! I have 6 or 7 of them on vhs and dvd. I'm amazed by them, especially the fact that the various species don't devour one another! So enjoy your Doo Dads. I hope the remaining lost ones will surface soon. Scott
