So the 'missing' reel consisted entirely of the length of the intertitle
frames, which were present in the Library of Congress copy but absent
from the print as found?

The lead actors were all amateurs, presumably.

Not that it matters, but I gotta ask -- how's the MOVIE? Could the
stars act? Is the directing stilted or fluid? Hopefully TCM will pick
it up someday and play it...
